Turkish Proficiency Exam

Turkish Proficiency Exam (TYS) is a test that measures and certifies your Turkish language skills. You have to prove the sufficiency of your Turkish in order to be able to study in universities in Turkey. If you are successful in the Turkish Proficiency Exam, you will be exempted from language preparation classes at universities in Turkey.

The TYS, developed by the Yunus Emre Institute, is an internationally administered exam that measures all of the basic language skills and consists of the following sections: Reading, Listening, Writing and Speaking (independent speaking, conversation).

The Turkish Proficiency Exam is held in two sessions. Reading, listening and writing sections in session 1; Speaking (independent speaking and conversation) is held in Session 2. Session 1; Reading 60, listening 45, writing 60, total 165 minutes; Session 2 is a total of 15 minutes, with 5 independent speaking and 10 conversation. The entire exam takes 180 minutes.

There are a total of 80 questions in the Turkish Proficiency Exam, 40 for measuring reading ability, 30 for measuring listening skills, 2 for measuring writing ability, 1 for measuring independent speaking skills, and 7 for measuring mutual conversation skills.

At least 50% (12.5 points) of achievement in each section is required to achieve success in the examination; and

B2 level certificate is given to candidates who score of 55-70,

C1 level certificate is given to candidates who score of 71-88

C2 level certificate is given to candidates who score of 89-100.

Turkish Proficiency Test is held three times a year, in January, May and July. Turkish Proficiency Test is held simultaneously in Turkey and in other countries with Yunus Emre Enstitüsü Turkish Cultural Centers.
